The National Equine Rescue Coalition (NERC) was founded as a resource for rescue groups, the media, state, local and federal government and the general public. NERC is dedicated to improving living conditions for all equine creatures but especially for those receiving inadequate care.
NERC member organizations and people spend countless hours and lots of money to rescue horses from abuse, ignorance and worst of all, inhumane slaughter. The resources required to take care of rescued animals leaves little time or money to raise awareness of equine welfare issues, raising needed funds or coordination with other rescue groups.
As membership grows, NERC will build a database of member groups to assist the universal goal of helping all equines in need. The database will serve as a resource to help member organizations coordinate their assets and abilities when a collective effort is needed for a special rescue situation.
NERC will spearhead efforts to build grass roots support for the reform of laws governing the humane treatment of equine animals, to raise public awareness of the plight of mistreated horses and to END HORSE SLAUGHTER IN THE UNITED STATES.
Together we will make it happen.
